Hello everyone :)
It’s been slightly more than a month, and I’m very, very glad to be back here blabbering nonsense :’) HOW HAVE YOU BEEN DOING?
Whenever I get on here, I feel like the only people left in the world are you and me. And I guess this is where we can truly be ourselves, holding a decent conversation (although one-sided, but I try to involve you) without me having to worry about being overly enthusiastic, whiny, unresponsive or squirming hard to find things to talk about – pressure from social interaction!! This is especially the case for acquaintances or friends, who aren’t very chummy with me in real-life. Because while interacting with them, you can’t be overly enthusiastic like how you’d behave making new friends, or overly creepy, like how I usually behave. I don’t know if you get me but ya, they’re like DNA fragments in Gel Electrophoresis you know? Neither at the cathode or the anode. I am sorry. This Biology reference is uncalled for.
Fun Fact: If you recall, (you probably don’t), I provided a chunky definition of Gel Electrophoresis in my blog post once on 9 September 2012 – no idea what the heck it meant but I’m glad I do now. Thank you ICS II!!
Nonsense aside, before I delve deeper into my life, I’d like to show you the results from the popcorn poll (previous post).
Most of you are really rude – I’ve already written my post in a way that demands you to vote for salted popcorn but no, most of you are punks.
13 people know what they’re doing in life.
HAHAHA kidding, but ya, most responses I’ve ever gotten from a poll!! I think popcorn flavours reach out more to you than topics like whether to do without knees or elbows. But topics like the latter are always more exciting. AND!! Why do so many of you leave without voting all the time? My survey pool is too small for me to conclude anything of value. HAHAH I AM KIDDING okay I am going to move on, and for the 31 individuals who prefer sweet popcorn… all I can do is to shake my head.
The past couple of weeks have been intense, but I’m here now! Want to blog about so many things, but all of them feel so irrelevant in today’s context, so I don’t think you’ll want to read about them right.
[warning]Disclaimer: Wordy rant-y post up ahead! [/warning]
In a nutshell, life has been about DF, CCA and Blocks… which was a terrible, terrible experience.
Ahh! Which brings me to my title of the post – no, I am not hungry and another fun fact: I love plain sushis. Don’t really dig all kinds of funny ingredients and raw food, so my choice is really limited to that plate of six tiny sushis with either cucumbers, eggs or crabmeat in the middle. You know what Im saying. And more often that not, I stick my finger through and push them out of where they sit (I would describe it in a simpler way but it sounded extremely vulgar) and simply eat the seaweed and sushi. If I eat this way in front of you, you know the love is real. Actually my stomach just growled. :’(
Was at Sushi Tei the other day and while waiting for food to come, I was watching endless plates of sushi come and go on the conveyor belt and it struck me how alike they are to students ourselves. Think about it; time and effort spent to make the sushi is equivalent to us slogging our guts out to pack as many information as we can store. The second we’re done with that, the verdict is out – we’re labelled accordingly, from blue to red to pink to frigging premium plates – and off we go into the real world, to seek recognition? To impress? To grab as many awards and scholarships?
And you aren’t even given as much time as you’d like to showcase yourself because there is a time limit. You’ve to make sure you look the least bit decent to ensure people will spare a glance at you, and if you’re lucky, they may look at you for a little longer, and if you’re really lucky, they’ll pick you.
If not, you can only helplessly sit on the belt rounds after rounds, hoping for the best. At the end of the day, if you’re not wanted, you’re abandoned and there’s really nothing left because showtime is over and you failed to leave an impression on anyone. It might have been you were too average, or it could have been you didn’t look as good as you would have tasted, and others might have it better simply because they knew how to package themselves in a way to attract others, whether or not they’re full of great ingredients.
But I guess the worst kind of feeling can probably come, if you’re on a premium plate and somebody lifts you off the belt… only to put you down again.
This might probably be a ridiculous or funny joke to some of you, but I feel that this problem is real. Gah, I don’t know if I managed to put across the idea effectively without explicitly stating what I feel? But whoooo, good to get that out of my chest!! Time to lay out my mat like the sushi in the post’s header image. HAHA.
I think BT1 was a great wake-up call for me because I haven’t been the studious of students, and I haven’t really been treating academics as seriously as I should have, especially with the Big A’s coming, but sometimes it cannot simply be controlled – whats the point of topping up the car with fuel when you can’t even turn the engine on right?
OKAY BLOCK TEST/STUDIES WOES aside, participated in this competition with Yvette and I think it has made us indebted to the kindest of souls who helped spread the word :) The competition closed with us having frigging 1004 votes and I really know deep down who the most amazing of people are – really, really very thankful! The whole competition started out as a joke and I had no idea how many people will come to know of our participation and it is very embarrassing but oh well HAHAHA. Thank you very much whether or not you’ve casted votes once, twice, thrice – I am really grateful you took the time to type in your Facebook email and password. It is a troublesome process!! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you SL for being the director and photographer ^ i love u
And I think the clear winner of the most aggressive sweetie pie is NYH?
Thank you so much for being so proactive and shamelessly publicising to your friends, whether they are close or not, even though you weren’t even in the picture :’)
And of course thank you to NYH’s friends who helped spread the word also!! Appreciate that a lot, a lot, a lot!!
Yvette and I will be baking to thank y’all for the support and love you’ve given us :) Except for that one person. We know who you are. HAHAHAHA I am kidding, really. #NOHATE
Before I end this blog post, I’d like to to once again thank Mr Lee Kuan Yew for all that he’s done for Singapore. He was instrumental in facilitating the modernisation of Singapore, with his great wisdom and foresight clearly evident. I particularly love this quote he said:
[pullquote width="300" float="left"]“It’s irrelevant to me what young Singaporeans think of me. What they think of me after I’m dead and gone in one generation will be determined by researchers who do PhD’s on me.”[/pullquote]
He has said so many fantastic things, it’s hard to decide – I really love his wit.
People have said that even till the end, he has managed to unite Singapore and it is very true, seeing the acts of kindness I read about while people were queuing to enter the Parliament House to pay their respects and many other sweet gestures Singaporeans have done as a whole for our dear founding father.
But that being said, there are still a handful who are insanely insensitive and displayed complete disrespect. There is a difference between having freedom of expression and being a prick – if you don’t even know how to separate the two, it shows a lot about you and your astounding lack of common sense and respect. If you have so much to talk about about the way Singapore has become under his leadership, maybe you can consider running for the role of Singapore’s Prime Minister and bring about a paradigm change to better the country. If you can’t do anything constructive just yet, maybe you should lay out your mat like the sushi above and chill – have some time to yourself to do some self-reflection. Gah!!
Let’s work hard together for the upcoming weeks and push all negativity aside.
All things will eventually fall into place.
This week’s poll:
Haha, not giving you much of an option there!
Till next time, tata.
