I am back from le GCP.
And feeling pretty lazy and sluggish about everything right now >:
I have no idea where the sudden motivation to blog came from but hahahaha here I am!
Honestly it has been a super fun and super cool (haha punny) and super awesome trip. (please pardon my bombastic vocab)
Already missing every bit of it.
As much as I am happy to come back to Singapore, leaving the Peking was sad too.
I cant even form proper sentences. Brain had a complete shutdown over the two weeks hahahahaha.
Okay Im going to narrate everything and I predict its gonna be kinda boring. But its all for me to see anyway ^.^ #classicinnocentface
Uploaded 136 photos onto Facebook and all the photos are everywhere and Im waiting for the rest to upload wheeeeheeeeeeee. Lets just say I wasnt the most hardworking photographer :D
Woke up in the morning feeling like P Diddy. Hahaha. Okay lah basically it was just the flight to Beijing where I wasted my life away watching Step Up (which I already watched) and Ted (Ha. Ha. Ha.) and the first part of Bokura Ga Ita. And Im feeling very sour about everything because I didnt get to watch Part 2 because the aeroplane back to Singapore was not one of the best ones.
BUT OKAY I WILL WAIT PATIENTLY FOR IT TO GO ONLINE.
Day 1 was pretty much slack and all! Took bus to hostel and then went out at night to get the phone cards for people who need them. It was really cold considering we went from a thirty-something degree country to a almost-zero degree country haha.
Our hostel! Roomed with the Rachelian.
We rearranged the beds! Oh and btw Im just ripping pictures of my facebook because if I upload the pics directly into WordPress they’re ginormous and Im too lazy to scale them down. :D
And we were blessed with a spoilt computer.
Hahahaha. We were pretty angry about it because the computer got our hopes up and then when it started up it didnt work. And we tried it many many times. But oh well.
And there is supposedly a room with wifi on our level (Level 4) then we found out it was a lie since nobody had wifi…………………………….. until 1 week plus later we realized our room is the room with the wifi. (It suddenly + magically appeared somehow) Rest of 304 roomed on the fifth level with Mr Tan!
But everyone came to our room hahahahahawhawhaw.
First night was spent playing cards and it was one of the only nights which we played. For the rest of the nights theres a different plan on. Because there wasnt wifi at first, most were using my personal hotspot HAHA UNLIMITED 3G FTW. But yeah everyone came to le room ;D
And that kind of concludes Day 1.
Day 2 was equally slack. Because the local students had examinations for the first three days we were there, the Sui-Ban-Shang-Ke plan kaboomed. So we had some lessons with the local teachers! Before that we had a school campus tour kinda. Beijing Ba Zhong is a pretty school woohoo.
We had Science lesson first and the teacher kinda looked like a mad scientist but yeah she’s pretty nice :) But she got me all confused when she gave a talk related to Bio, then afterwards gave us a practical somehow related to Chem to do. Hahahah. But yeah it was pretty basic and simple!
Then afterwards we went to Parkson Shopping Centre to shop! Supermarket there is the bomb hahaha. Everyone bought crazy amounts of Pocky/Pretz!
Then I think we had some gossiping session some time during that day or Truth or Dare. I cannot remember hahaha.
We had 2 lessons on Day 3, one on Shui Mo Hua and the other on some Geography lesson related to Beijing itself.
It was really super slack for the first few days!
The Shui Mo Hua teacher was pretty kewl hahahaha. And my painting looked pretty damn bad Im too embarrassed to take a picture of it hahaha.
And then later that night, we had some night venturing thingy to Xidan and we walked a lot! (Two MRT stations)
Hahaha the reason why I can still remember what we did is because I wrote it all down in le notebook hahaha. If not I cant even remember a single thing boohoo.
We had another lesson today, regarding history of Beijing. And I swear I tried my best to keep awake throughout all the lessons but really its a natural thing to want to fall asleep :(
Then we had more shopping time at a Pi Fa Shi Chang (and Im not writing Chinese characters because they cant be seen here IDK why D:) where I got a hulk hand. Hahaha. And many other stuff like stationery, notebooks, files etc.
I think we went back early. For early nights we went to the field or went to the basketball court or went to the area outside the basketball court for Wifi haha. It was much sought after HAHAHA.
Alice Day!! It was incredibly fun albeit super tiring D: We went to Xiang Shan (directly translates to Fragrance Hills or something) and we sneaked into Qing Hua Da Xue. Many people apparently thought we were from Hong Kong/Korea/Macau or something hahahaha. Xiang Shan was super super preeeeeeeedy with all the red leaves and all. Although most were still kinda orange but still. Took many photos there!
And we sang Shan Ge along the way. The NY musical version hahaha.
It was fun. :)
Getting inside Qing Hua university was crazy. At first the whole bunch of us stuck together and walked to the entrance and we were approached by like 2 people saying that if we paid them they’ll bring us in. But they got dao-ed. Hahaha. Then we walked one whole round around the area, partly to look for some place to eat lunch but all the food there was a bit weird and the policeman/security dude refused to tell us whether there was anything to eat so yeah.
So we went back to Qing Hua to try to get in if not we’ll go Beida. Hahahahahaha. Then Vanessa and I got sabo-ed to go in first kinda and then at first when we tried to walk in with swag like a student then they stopped us and asked for some student identification card in Chinese. Then throughout I was giving a “what the hell bro WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT” face and Vanessa was like “what? Im sorry?” then the dude repeated slowly then Vanessa was still like “what? we’re students here” and “we’re here to visit the school” HAHA and the guard let us in. Whoop whoop. Then the others came in four by four with their stories to tell. But it was pretty damn scary at first. Then we came out with souvenirs from Qing Hua. And it was horrible trying to get to the shop I tell you. Many people gave wrong directions >(
But yeah Alice Day was really really really fun and fufilling and enriching :)
Day 6 was a whole day of lessons and interaction with the local students and at first I thought my buddy was pretty scary/creepy but shes really really a nice person. All the girls from the class Rachelian and I are attached to are really super sweet and nice and welcoming hahahaha. We had lunch with them that day and it was just really fun with them! Especially Zhou An Qi, Xiao Bai, Wei Yu Chen and Rachelian’s buddy Lee Zhuo Yang!
They’re really nice people yay.
From my instagram!!
And some more:
^ Class photo!
1 week flew past really quickly hehehe. Day 7 was the most disgusting day I think because it was cold and rainy and muddy. And I dropped many things. Like my newly-opened heat pack. :( and my gloves omg. And my cap was pretty much drenched from the rain.
We went to Yi He Yuan and Yuan Ming Yuan and the local museum which was supahhh big.
As much as they’re all pretty they look pretty similar hahaha. But yeah pictures! From Vanessa’s phone.
11 November. Hahahaha. We went to Tian An Men/Gu Gong there and it was a mini Alice Day again but it wasnt too Alicey since we’re already bound to a place. We saw Mao Ze Dong’s dead body. Hahah. And it was a really windy day that day. And we ran for our lives when we realized we were going to be late because we just bought tickets to see the 9 Dragons Wall thingy hahaha. We went to Wang Fu Jing thereafter and it was supposedly some shopping/food street kinda thing and we saw pretty scary stuff like Starfish/Scorpions/weird insects on a stick. But I hardly saw anyone buying it haha. Much less eating it. But still.
Caught the flag-lowering portion of the day and it was mind-blowing how all the idek-what-soliders? march in unison. Like you can hear the distinct sounds of every single person’s foot touch the floor the same time. It was crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. But uh huh the entire thing looked really good and cool. And they had to stop the traffic for a while to do it. Hahaha.
We went to Tian Tan in the morning!
And then we followed the local students for lessons in the afternoon. They have PE every single day and they run in the field when its winter. Didnt run that day because I already fell sick and was feeling almost like poop. Ran the first time we followed them for lessons though! And it was one of only times I sweat-ed. Hahah.
AND BEIJING BAZHONG KIND OF LEFT ME A SCAR. Because of this creepy girl who looks like a guy who calls her/himself Liang Ge. Like brother kind of ge. Then Im like “what omg nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” and he/she stroke Yuan Zhen’s chin. And Shuli is secretly super excited over him/her. BUT SHE/HE’S REALLY DAMN CREEPY OH GOD. No elaboration on this girl/guy needed. It was a harrowing and mind-scaring experience.
Time was flying by like mad and we followed the students for the first 3 periods that day and the third period happened to be PE. And then I dont know why the PE teacher didnt come so we spent the last period taking photos and polaroids courtesy of Rachel Lian hahaha. :DD
Afterwards was another lesson about Beijing and it was the final one of the whole trip.
After that we went to Beijing Ba Zhong the lower secondary portion to have a Lian Huan Hui where we performed Nanyang Bounce and sang to Where We Belong and chinese version of Home. They had no piano/guzheng so Clara/Yuan Zhen couldnt perform their solos >:
OH AND EACH PERSON WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE A POKER CARD BEFORE ENTERING and I got Joker. Then I was like “IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE A NUMBER AND I HAVE A JOKER” and it turns out I had to introduce the Nanyang group to the local students. Which really isnt too bad compared to many others thing which could have happened. The tiny students there, especially the eleven-year-old girl are like intellectual smart beings… who also cheat in Bingo. Hahahahahahhahahaha. But oh well.
Played a few games with them and all of them were really adorable heh x)
Then afterwards we went to Parkson again to get more stuff and went back to hostel I think.
That day was really horrible and unlucky.
We went to the Great Wall!! And Shi San Ling!! And the Lao She Cha Guan + Qian Men. Sorry for the HAN YU PIN YINs hahahaha.
Great Wall wasnt as great as I thought it would be. It was tiring like mad climbing up and also super duper duper duper scary because the stairs were uneven + steep + eroded and you could just crawl up really. Dont know how some people manage to run up and down the stairs. Going down was much less tiring but it was crazy too. And we met a Singaporean tour group there. And one couple conveniently plocked themselves down in the middle of nowhere and I was like “whutttttttttttttttt”. Like they sat in the middle of a flight of stairs with people going up and down around them. Im very confused. But yeah Great Wall was pretty tiring D:
And Shi San Ling was just about going to see how a grave looks like of the emperor… wasnt very very mind-blowing but still not too bad. And then afterwards we went to shop for a while along Qian Men!
Didnt get much except for some biscuits to give other people!
At night we went to Lao She Cha Guan to watch a show kinda and some were pretty cool. Like a woman singing with candles in her mouth. Kinda. And then a woman performing magic tricks with many cloths. And a man juggling some pot/vase on his head. Looked really damn painful. And another one with a woman who manages to keep changing her face. Hahah. Its called “Bian Lian” and it was really cool hehe. Fast reflexes.
Went back to hostel really late that day!
We went to Tian Jin! Felt this wasnt exactly very much needed because the drive there and back from Beijing took like 6 hours. And we spent quite little time there doing quite little things. Like going to Wen Hua Jie and house of a rich dude yeah… But Tian Jin looked quite pretty!
It was a pretty tiring day as well.
Day 13 and Day 14
We went to Min Gong Zi Di Xiao Xue to do CIP! The tour guide said the toilets will be quite bad and Rachelian was like “How bad can a toilet be…” and it was really quite bad. It consisted of many rectangular holes lined up next to each other kinda and yeah. It was like an open space with many holes. Ok this sounds really horrifying but yeah all of us kinda used the toilet one at a time haha with one person inside and the rest guarding/waiting outside.
After that we went to visit a Hu Tong which is like the olden kinda streets of Beijing haha. Sitting on the tricycle was pretty fun but I felt really bad for the old uncle cycling because we were pretty heavy. I guess. And photos with Rachelian!
And next was going to Xi Dan for more shopping and we went to Shu Cheng and 77th Plaza or something according to Shin Ler’s recommendation hahaha. It was really not bad but Esther and I kinda almost got lost inside that place. Managed to drink Bubble Tea as well!
Then its kinda the last day in Beijing already D: D: D:
The next day was Vanessa’s birthday so we all stayed up till 12 to crash her room hehe and she was sleeping already. Super fun night with all of them but still its the last night :’(
Slept at around 1+ to wake up at around 4 to head to the airport!
Last group photo :’(
Yeah then you can kinda guess what happened and Im now back here blogging.
Beijing was really super fun and hehehe I’ve learnt stuff and all. Although Im missing everything there, especially how I didnt need to use my brain and stuff heh heh heh, gotta adapt back to life here and do all the stuff I’ve been putting aside for the past two weeks.
As much as I dont want to.
Wouldnt mind going through the whole experience again!
Got closer to a few more people in le class and we kinda stuck together with June Yu and Cabbage Wong Jeng Jeng hahaha. Got to know them better and yeah… Beijing GCP was really worth it.
The thing I’ve been looking forward to and a source of motivation for the past few months…
It was all worthwhile :)
Oh and I read 3 Wattpad books while I was there during the course of the first week. It was really slack there.
Okay now Im waiting for everyone to post up their photos whoop whoop.
Thanks for reading even though Im pretty sure most of you just glanced through and looked at the photos hahah.
(its a 2730-word post! :D)
